Advent Conspiracy 2019

This Christmas marks the twelfth year we have been a part of the Advent Conspiracy! By joining this movement, we aim to SPEND LESS by resisting the cultural pressure to celebrate Christmas through over-spending and over-consumption. Instead, we GIVE MORE! That is, we give relational, thoughtful, and meaningful gifts. We then take the money we saved and LOVE ALL by giving to those in true need. In all of this, we strive to WORSHIP FULLY by keeping our focus on Jesus and participating with Him in what He came to do, bringing hope to a desperate world.

 This year, we have chosen to give to the needs of children living in poverty in our city.

To become a conspirator, simply decide how you want to adjust or reduce your Christmas spending and then use the difference to made a donation to the Advent Conspiracy 2019.

 Did you know?

  • 1 in 5 children in Lethbridge under age 15 live in poverty;
  • There are more children living in poverty than adults;
  • Of the seven urban centres in Alberta, we have the highest child poverty rate;
  • More than 1/3 of children living in poverty are in a household with a family member who has full-time year round employment

2019 Advent Conspiracy Project Details

The first $50,000 raised will be used to install a fully-functioning kitchen at the Lethbridge Food Bank to provide a safe food prep area for the Mindful Munchies program. Mindful Munchies, a partnership between the Lethbridge Food Bank and MyCityCare, prepares and delivers approximately 1600 lunches every week to students in need in 21 local schools and agencies.

Everything over $50,000 will be donated to the Lethbridge School Division Poverty Intervention Fund. This fund exists to improve educational opportunities and achievement for children and youth living in poverty. It is used to provide breakfast, snack, and lunch programs, weekend meal support on an emergency basis, hygiene items, winter and work program clothing, and also supports related school based projects.

By carefully considering our Christmas spending and intentionally re-directing a portion of those resources to these causes, we can bring hope and encouragement to hundreds of children living in poverty, many of them in our very own neighbourhoods.

 Advent Conspiracy donations may be made to the church in Sunday services, at the E-tithe booth in the lobby, or online. Simply designated your gift “Advent Conspiracy”.

We look forward to seeing you next sunday!
