Adopt a Student
Purpose:
The Adopt-a-Student program aims to connect young adults with the broader church community, fostering intergenerational relationships. The goal is for young adults to feel a strong sense of belonging within the church and become involved beyond the young adult group.
How it Works:
Participants can sign up through Church Center as either an “Adoptee” (student/young adult) or an “Adopter.” Each student will be matched with a church member or family.
Commitment:
The base commitment involves connecting in person once a month, ideally over a meal, especially for students living away from home. However, participants can choose to connect more frequently in various ways:
- Going for coffee or a walk to discuss life
- Weekly check-in texts with prayer support
- Inviting the student for family activities, such as grocery shopping or movie nights
While this is not necessarily a mentoring relationship (although it can be if the pairing is looking for that), it provides a meaningful way to build relationships, show care, and demonstrate faith, which can have a lasting impact on the students’ spiritual growth.
