May 15 Pentecost- The Holy Spirit Comes
We have been learning for the last five weeks about different miracles Jesus performed while on earth, and what this teaches us about Him. We started a new memory verse, John 20:30-31, which reminds us that the miracles we have recorded in the Bible are not all that Jesus performed, and also the purpose of Jesus’ miracles. “Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.”
This week is going to look a little different, as we are using different elements of curriculum and lessons to teach about the coming of the Holy Spirit after Jesus’ ascension. According to the Christian calendar, this past Sunday (May 8) was Ascension Sunday. Ascension Sunday the Sunday closest to 40 days after Jesus rose from the dead, walked the earth, and then ascended to the right hand of the Father. This coming Sunday is the Sunday we celebrate Pentecost, the coming of the Holy Spirit. We will be looking at Acts 2 and asking, “What happened after Jesus went to Heaven?” and see how the answer fulfills Jesus’ promise to send a Helper and a Friend after he left.
