Nov 30: David Sinned and was Restored
David sinned against God, but even through that, God, in His grace, restored David when he repented. One night David was on the roof of the palace and saw Bathsheba, bathing. He called for her and the result was that she became pregnant. After orchestrating her husband Uriah’s death, David married Bathsheba and she soon gave birth to a son. Once David was confronted with his sin, he wrote a beautiful prayer of repentance. Read Psalm 51 and feel along with David, the remorse of sin. When we sin, we can receive God’s forgiveness because God sent His Son, Jesus, to pay the price for our sin. Jesus died the death we deserve so that we could be made right with God.
Consider this story found in 2 Samuel 11:1-12:14; and David’s reflections as recorded in Psalm 51.
Q: How did David’s decision not to go to war as most kings did in the spring affect rest of this story?
Q: How can small poor decisions affect the path of our lives?
Q: What should we do when we sin?
Q: Describe some of the emotions that David was feeling found in Psalm 51.
Q: Despite David’s sin God still calls him “a man after my own heart” (Acts 13:22). What do you think made David different than Saul?
